Hatsune Miku's LED Hair Pins
Built for Metrocon 2026, these custom LED hair clips were designed to bring Hatsune Miku’s unmistakable style to life as a bright, wearable accessory. As one of the most recognizable virtual singers in the Vocaloid community, Miku’s visual identity lends itself perfectly to a build that combines cosplay, electronics, and fabrication. Each clip was 3D printed using black and translucent red PETG, allowing the LEDs to glow through the translucent sections while keeping the outer housing clean and structural.
The electronics were easily the biggest challenge of the project. Each pair contains eight separate 5V LED runs, carefully soldered and routed through the compact housings. With very little room for wiring and several tight internal corners, getting everything to fit required plenty of trial and error during assembly. Both clips feature a hidden on/off switch, keeping the electronics accessible while preserving the clean exterior of the design.
From the first print to the finished illuminated pair, the entire project was completed in just three days. It was a fast build with plenty of electrical problem-solving along the way, but the finished result brings together digital fabrication, electronics, and cosplay into a vibrant tribute to Vocaloid’s most iconic character!
